What is Speed Reading?
Speed reading uses a technique called RSVP (Rapid Serial Visual Presentation). Instead of scanning a line of text, words appear one at a time at your reading point. This eliminates the back-and-forth eye movements called saccades that slow traditional reading, allowing your brain to process text much faster. Most people read at 200 to 250 WPM. With practice, 400 to 600 WPM is achievable while maintaining comprehension.
🔴 The Red Dot — Optimal Recognition Point
The small red dot above and below each word, and the highlighted letter beneath it, mark the Optimal Recognition Point (ORP). Research by cognitive scientist Keith Rayner established that the human eye does not read most efficiently when fixed on the centre of a word. Instead there is a Preferred Viewing Position roughly 35% from the left edge of each word. This is because your visual field processes more information to the right of wherever your eye lands, so anchoring slightly left brings the rest of the word into sharper focus. SwiftMind calculates this position precisely for every word and aligns it under the red dot, giving your eye a fixed point to lock onto. This is why shorter words like the highlight the second letter, while longer words like reading highlight the third. Keeping your gaze on the red dot rather than following each letter is the key habit that allows reading speed to increase without losing comprehension.
🧠 Brain & Processing Benefits
Speed reading actively engages the prefrontal cortex, the part of your brain responsible for focus, decision-making, and working memory. Regular RSVP reading has been linked to improved processing speed, better sustained attention, and stronger working memory capacity. The comprehension quizzes after each story further strengthen neural pathways associated with reading comprehension and recall.
📚 Learning at Every Age
Content in this app is carefully tailored to each age group, from simple magical stories for under 8s to complex adult non-fiction. Reading regularly, even for just 10 to 15 minutes a day, improves vocabulary, general knowledge, concentration, and academic performance. The non-fiction categories covering Science, History, Geography and more make this a powerful learning tool alongside entertainment.
🌍 Convenient & Always Fresh
Every piece of content is generated fresh by AI, meaning you will never read the same story twice. Content is calibrated to your age group, vocabulary level, and interests. Save stories to your personal library for offline reading, track your progress over time, and build daily reading habits with streak tracking and goals. The app works on any device. Install it to your home screen for instant access.
👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Built for Families
Up to 5 reader profiles can share the same app, each with their own age settings, reading history, saved stories, and achievements. Parents can monitor reading habits through the stats dashboard. The comprehension quiz system tracks understanding over time, giving a real measure of reading effectiveness rather than just speed.
🔒 Privacy & Safety
All data including profiles, reading history and saved stories is stored locally on your device. Nothing is sent to any server except the story generation requests to the AI. Content safety filters are applied to every age group. No accounts, no subscriptions, no ads.
